Another place to enjoy the outdoors is Canyon Lake. This man-made reservoir is nothing short of a wonder. It was created by damming the Salt River and covers some 950 acres. Today it is one of the most popular water areas in the entire state of Arizona. It is located about 15 miles from Apache Junction and is about 51 miles east from Phoenix. The area is home to a variety of recreational activities and amenities, including camping, boating and hiking trails. There are also historic sightseeing tours available as well, aboard Dolly Steamboat, which is a great way to see more of the local area and enjoy a relaxing afternoon or evening on the water.
